Farm2Market

An Urban Community Farm in Alameda Supporting the Community – Stewarding the Land – Sharing the Bounty

ABOUT US

APC Farm2Market is a small, diversified working urban farm and a social enterprise of Alameda Point Collaborative. We use our passion for community, food and the environment to support APC residents as they move toward economic self-sufficiency and greater health and wellness. Our farm employs APC residents to work with staff and volunteers to produce delicious, nutritious fruits and veggies, raw honey and beautiful flowers. Proceeds from our CSA membership program are used to help sustain APC’s supportive housing community.

THE FARM

Farm2Market consists of 2-acres of vegetable crops, fruit orchards, bee hives and flowers. We grow nearly everything from seed and strive to use sustainable practices, following permaculture principles and organic methods. We never use any chemical pesticides or fertilizers.
In addition to our fields and orchards, the farm offers beautiful multi-use space to host events, classes and performances, including a stage and a large gathering area.

APC & FARM2MARKET

Farm2Market began in 2005 as Growing Youth Project, a program started by and for APC youth who joined together to learn about food access and grow healthy food for their community. Over the years F2M has grown into a working farm that employs residents, provides job training and offers educational volunteer experiences.
Our work at Farm2Market supports the mission of APC in three main ways: the OJT (On-the-Job Training) Program, our connection to the community, and hosting volunteers and events.

On-the-job Training

APC’s Farm2Market is the agency’s largest site for its OJT (On-the-Job Training) Program. The program allows APC to employ residents for a 6-month cycle so that they can learn transferable job skills. We are able to hire up to 12 residents a year for our adult program, while also offering an 8-week employment program for youth in the summer.

Community Connection

In addition to providing better access to nutritious produce for our APC community, Farm2Market also hosts community workdays, monthly wellness events and seasonal celebrations. Throughout the year, many of our most dedicated volunteers and participants are APC residents and former Farm Crew OJTs.

Workshops & Events

Farm2Market is home to a variety of events and we continue to develop and expand our offerings. We host APC’s Farm to Table Luncheon, educational school field trips, youth theatre performances, and our annual Harvest Festival for the community. We also host thousands of volunteers each year, providing a fun and educational experience for individuals and groups of up to 150 people.

Join Our CSA

What is “CSA”?

Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, is a system by which farms offer shares of their harvest through a membership program. Become a member of our farm by joining our CSA and receive a weekly share of peak season fresh fruits and vegetables from the farm!

September 11 , 2018
What do members receive?

We offer 2 sizes of shares: $15 of produce per week or $25 of produce per week. The contents of each share varies from week to week, reflecting what’s in season, and is always a mix of fruits and vegetables. There is also an option to receive flower bouquets.

How does it work?

You can either come to the farm each week on Wednesday evenings to pick-up your share in our farm stand, or you can receive a box delivered to your doorstep on Fridays (Alameda residents only). We also have a pick-up site in Berkeley on Tuesdays.

What our members are saying

“I love picking up my CSA share from the farm and seeing the smiling faces of everyone there who has contributed to the beautiful process. I love the creative challenge of finding ways to use the variety of produce. I love “having” to eat healthy to put it all to good use. And most of all I love that with all of this goodness for me and my family, I am also contributing to a local cause that I deeply care about. So much win!”

What our members are saying

“I have tried out a few different CSAs and have often been disappointed in either quality or quantity of produce. Farm2Market hits the sweet spot and provide a huge variety of super fresh seasonal produce and plenty of it. I love the seasonality of the boxes – it gives you a very tangible experience of what is in season and grows well in our area. I almost always use everything in the box and can’t wait for the next week – It’s like my birthday every pickup day!”

What our members are saying

“The quality, variety and amount of truly locally grown fruit and vegetable is nearly unbelievable. We excitedly retrieve our weekly box from our back deck and open it, sharing the bounty amongst our family as we start to plan what to make for dinner for the week. We cannot express how fantastic this service is except to say “It’s Fantastic!” “ -Jen and John
