APC kids are equipped 4 success

It’s that time of year again! The leaves start to turn gold and brown, there’s a nice breeze out and parents are rejoicing while children…are maybe not as excited as their parents. It’s back-to- school time and that means new teachers, new lessons and school gear.  Of course, that also means it’s time for the annual, Equipped 4 Success, school supply drive.

Equipped 4 Success is a partnership between Alameda Education Foundation, the Alameda Unified School District,  Alameda Boys and Girls Club, Alameda Head Start, Girls Inc. of the Island City and, yours truly, Alameda Point Collaborative, to ensure that 1,000 K-12 students in Alameda have everything that they need to start the school year off right. Each student will receive a new backpack filled with grade appropriate supplies like pencils, crayons, markers, binders and more.

So many backpacks!

So many backpacks!

It is estimated that the average amount a family spends more than $100 on back to school supplies. Equipped 4 Success helps to ease the financial burden of going back to school for families with limited resources.  Having the right tools is essential for any job, and school is no exception. Equipped 4 Success ensures that all Alameda kids are ready for academic success.

In early August, APC staff, along with volunteers from Live Oak Unitarian Fellowship and other community members were thrilled to help Alameda Education Foundation staff stuff backpacks for elementary, middle and high school students. In a two hour shift, volunteers stuffed more than 300 backpacks!

We hope that all of our APC kids and parents will enjoy these last days of summer vacation!
